Prime Minister Narendra Modi held official talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday. The Modi Indonesia visit marks the first meeting between the two leaders since Prabowo’s Republic Day visit to India in January 2025. President Prabowo welcomed PM Modi at the Istana Merdeka with a ceremonial reception, according to a press release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Delhi.
Modi Indonesia Visit Strengthens Strategic Partnership

The two leaders reviewed the full scope of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They covered trade, defence, maritime cooperation, digital technology, energy, healthcare, space, and critical minerals. Additionally, they welcomed the launch of the Indonesia Open Network, built on India’s Open Network for Digital Commerce.
PM Modi also announced a joint cultural initiative. The two nations will celebrate 2027 as the “Tagore-Dewantara Year for Cultural and Educational Diplomacy.” This marks the centenary of Rabindranath Tagore’s historic visit to Indonesia.
Regional security also featured prominently in the talks. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a free and rules-based Indo-Pacific. PM Modi highlighted India’s MAHASAGAR vision for regional growth, while President Prabowo backed India’s ongoing BRICS presidency in 2026.
Following the discussions, the leaders witnessed the exchange of several agreements. These covered defence, education, telecommunications, agriculture, and disaster management, among other sectors. A separate Letter of Intent addressed India’s support for restoring Yogyakarta’s Prambanan Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Indonesia Honours PM Modi With Top Civilian Award
President Prabowo conferred the ‘Bintang Adipurna’ medal on PM Modi later in the day. This award represents Indonesia’s highest civilian honour. The President presented it in recognition of PM Modi’s leadership in strengthening India-Indonesia relations.
PM Modi dedicated the honour to the people of both nations. He also credited the enduring civilizational ties between India and Indonesia. Furthermore, President Prabowo hosted a luncheon to mark the occasion, and PM Modi thanked him for his hospitality.
The visit reflects deepening cooperation between the two nations across multiple sectors. Both governments now look ahead to implementing the agreements signed during this visit.
