The Indian Coast Guard has rescued 170 stranded people during a series of flood relief operations across Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and South Gujarat. Continuous rainfall and rising floodwaters disrupted normal life over the past few days. According to an official statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the rescue missions were conducted in coordination with the local civil administration through 11 separate operations that have been underway since the night of 22 July.
Indian Coast Guard Rescues 170 Persons in Co-ordinated Operations
The rescue efforts began during the night of 22–23 July, when Coast Guard teams evacuated five stranded people from Khanvel in Silvassa. Soon after, they rescued three fishermen who had become trapped along the flooded riverbank in the Kadaiya coastal area.
One of the biggest rescue operations took place in the Welspun Industrial Area, where road connectivity had been completely cut off due to flooding. During the night of 23–24 July, Coast Guard personnel safely evacuated 60 stranded people from the area.
The operations continued across several affected locations as floodwaters spread further.
Rescue Efforts Continue
The Coast Guard later rescued seven people from a bus stranded near Aero Fibre Pvt. Ltd., while its teams evacuated another 10 people from Dongri.
In another operation, a Coast Guard helicopter rescued four stranded people from the Valsad-Pardi region. Rescue teams also carried out an overnight evacuation of eight people from the Reliance Industries area.
Another significant mission involved the evacuation of 10 residents from the Avadh Society area, including a woman who was nine months pregnant and another woman suffering from respiratory distress. Both were shifted to safety. They could then receive timely medical care.
On 24 July, two Indian Coast Guard helicopters airlifted 33 stranded people from Mendar village in Navsari district. Officials said the rescued group included a person experiencing severe chest pain. Medical teams provided immediate assistance.
Indian Coast Guard Continues Flood Relief Operations
Despite relentless rain, strong currents and difficult weather conditions, Coast Guard personnel continued rescue work without interruption throughout the operation.
The service said its teams remained focused on assisting people in distress while working alongside local authorities in the affected districts. The Coast Guard also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the civil administration and maintaining operational readiness for any further emergencies arising from the ongoing flood situation.
