The Red Envelope is a Thai remake of Chinese drama called, “Marry My Dead Body (2022)”. Although the plot is similar, but not entirely same. Let’s Review!
What is The Red Envelope About?

Late Titi’s mother is waking from a nightmare. A spiritual advisor told her that her son has unfinished business. Consequently, believing it to be his unfulfilled wish to marry a man, she’s instructed to leave a red envelope that fate will deliver to the right groom. Enter Menn (Billkin), a hapless police informant whose love life is even more tragic than his career. He stumbles upon the envelope and into an unexpected posthumous marriage.
On their wedding night, Menn is stunned to find himself permanently accompanied by Titi’s ghost (Krit Amnuaydechkorn). What follows is a chaotic, comic partnership as the two try to uncover the truth behind Titi’s death, leading them into the orbit of suspected drug lord Big Joe (Jaturong Phonboon). Menn, eager to impress cop Goi (Arachaporn Pokinpakorn), and Titi, grappling with unresolved father issues, make for the unlikeliest of investigative duos.
How is The Red Envelope different from Marry My Dead Body?
1. Friendly banter vs Full on rivalry:
In the original story, both main characters often fight over trivial matters, teasing and taunting each other for minor mistakes while still remaining on good terms. In contrast, Menn and Titi frequently argue with the intent to hurt each other, and for a period, they do not even speak to one another in the movie. This, in turn, makes Menn’s redemption more impactful when he sincerely apologises to Titi.
2. Romantic tension between the main characters:

Menn and Titi explicitly make it clear that they don’t have any feelings for each other. Wu Meng Han and Mau Pang-yu have some tension between them. The scene where Pang-yu tries to teach Meng Han how to “act in love”, he almost falls in for a kiss. This is not seen between Menn and Titi as they focus on the crime more.
3. The female love interest portrayal and Menn/Meng Han’s job:

The female love interest in the original movie betrays the main characters because she has a goal. She wanted to see the downfall of the man that killed her mother. But in The Red Envelope, the female love interest just betrays the main gang because she was a member of the enemy gang, for no reason. This reduces the character’s impact on the main character. Aside from Menn repeatedly insisting that he is straight and sometimes using an offensive slur toward Titi, the film still carries the tone and rhythm of queer Thai comedy.
It is worth a watch and I would definitely recommend watching both the movies and notice the different jokes translated from one culture to another!
