
Indian Navy to Host Four-Day Multinational Exercise
The Indian Navy will host Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi from July 20 to 23. The four-day multinational maritime training exercise will take place in partnership with the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF). Moreover, it will be conducted under the Indian Navy-led Combined Task Force 154 (CTF 154), the CMF’s dedicated Training Task Force.
The exercise will bring together maritime personnel from partner nations for professional security training, practical learning and the exchange of operational best practices. According to the Indian Navy, the initiative reflects India’s continued efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation in the region. It also helps personnel from participating countries enhance their professional skills.
Operation Southern Readiness to Bring Together Maritime Partners

Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 is being organised in collaboration with the Combined Maritime Forces, a multinational maritime partnership comprising more than 40 nations. Through this engagement, the Indian Navy continues to support regional capacity building. At the same time, it contributes to collective maritime security.
The exercise aims to improve cooperation among participating countries by giving maritime personnel a platform to exchange operational knowledge and best practices. Officials said such engagements help build professional understanding. They also encourage closer coordination during maritime security operations.
Participants will also get an opportunity to share their experiences and learn different approaches to maritime training. According to the Indian Navy, these interactions strengthen long-term cooperation among partner nations. They also promote better coordination in future maritime operations.
The Indian Navy said the programme also reflects India’s growing role in multinational maritime training. It also highlights its continued efforts to strengthen regional maritime cooperation.
Operation Southern Readiness Training to Cover Classroom and Practical Sessions

The four-day programme will combine classroom instruction, simulator-based learning and practical training. Participants will attend sessions on Maritime Law, Maritime Domain Awareness, Information Sharing, Counter-Narcotics, Force Protection, Asymmetric Threats and Maritime Uncrewed Systems.
Along with classroom sessions, participants will receive hands-on training in damage control, firefighting, maritime communications, survival at sea, boarding procedures and practical exercises aboard an Indian Navy ship.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the programme combines classroom learning with practical training. It aims to improve interoperability, strengthen professional understanding and enhance cooperation among partner nations. It also prepares participants for modern maritime security challenges.
Southern Naval Command to Showcase Training Capability

The Indian Navy said the exercise will also showcase the Southern Naval Command’s modern training infrastructure, advanced simulators, professional instructional methods and training expertise. The Southern Naval Command is one of the Indian Navy’s key training centres.
Officials said holding the exercise in Kochi reinforces the Southern Naval Command’s position as a major maritime training hub. It also highlights the Indian Navy’s role as a preferred destination for multinational maritime training programmes.
The Ministry of Defence said the Southern Naval Command has developed advanced training infrastructure and simulator-based facilities to support modern maritime learning. The exercise is expected to showcase these capabilities. It will also give participants practical exposure to the Indian Navy’s training standards and instructional methods.
Through four days of classroom sessions, practical training and professional exchanges, Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 is expected to strengthen coordination, encourage knowledge sharing and support collective maritime security among participating nations.
