The Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI) is set to bring Korean culture to Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, through its two-day outreach programme, ‘KCCI ON THE GO: GUNTUR’, on September 8 and 9.
Supported by the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hyderabad, the programme will introduce local students and residents to Korean language, Taekwondo, Samulnori, Korean quizzes and K-pop.
The first programme will take place on September 8 at Delhi Public School, Amaravati, where students will get an opportunity to experience Korean cultural performances. On September 9, the programme will move to Guntur Club, with performances planned for local residents.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the two-day programme, with students and young people forming a major part of the audience.
Among the highlights will be an interactive Korean quiz, offering participants a chance to learn more about Korea while engaging with the performers. The programme will also feature Samulnori, a traditional Korean percussion performance known for its energetic rhythms, along with Taekwondo demonstrations.
The event will also showcase contemporary Korean popular culture through a K-pop cover dance performance by a local dance group, bringing together traditional and modern elements of Korean culture.
Speaking ahead of the programme, Suresh Chukkapalli, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Hyderabad, said the initiative was aimed at taking Korean culture beyond India’s major metropolitan cities and closer to communities such as Guntur.
In an interview with The World Times, Hwang Il Yong, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India, said the interest shown by students and residents reflected the growing popularity of Korean culture beyond the country’s major cities.
Through KCCI ON THE GO, the Korean Cultural Centre India is looking to create more opportunities for audiences across India to experience Korean culture directly, while strengthening people-to-people and cultural ties between India and South Korea.
