The Dutch Grand Prix returns to Zandvoort for its final scheduled F1 race. Max Verstappen is set to compete in an emotional farewell to his home circuit. Since Formula 1 brought the race back to the calendar in 2021, Zandvoort has hosted six editions of the Dutch Grand Prix. This makes the 2026 event its final appearance on the F1 calendar.
For Verstappen, the 2026 race will mark his sixth consecutive appearance at the venue where he has created some memorable moments over the past five seasons. The Dutchman has won three times at Zandvoort and finished second on two occasions.
One victory stands out in particular. Verstappen won the first Dutch Grand Prix after the race returned in 2021 in front of his passionate home fans.
The Orange Army consists of hundreds of thousands of Verstappen’s fans wearing orange colours on all occasions. When the 28-year-old drives for Red Bull, the army makes it an almost obligatory tradition to attend all Dutch Grand Prix races. The fans make Verstappen feel at home and enjoy his racing.
Verstappen’s Special Delft Blue Helmet

Moreover, Verstappen will compete wearing a special helmet, designed especially for his last home race at Zandvoort Circuit. It is based on the Delft Blue ceramics, which can be considered the most popular type of art in the Netherlands.
With its white and blue colours, the special helmet makes Verstappen’s helmet look very Dutch. More importantly, according to Verstappen, the helmet was designed as a tribute to Dutch fans. They have been supporting him throughout his career.
It is a reflection of the relationship between Verstappen, his fans, and the Zandvoort Circuit. While the circuit has been filled with the orange colour of the Dutch fans, the helmet adds the traditional Dutch touch to the race. It is likely to become a memorable farewell.
“I will race in my special helmet this week,” Verstappen stated. The helmet features a special design inspired by Delft Blue ceramics.
A Final Chance for Another Dutch Grand Prix Victory

Verstappen will also be able to add another victory to his tally in the upcoming 2026 Dutch Grand Prix. He can equal the feat of four Dutch Grand Prix victories set by Jim Clark if he wins at Zandvoort this weekend. But Verstappen will face a tough challenge.
McLaren has emerged victorious in the past two editions of the race. Lando Norris registered a win in the 2024 edition, and Oscar Piastri won last year. McLaren has also been very dominant in the 2026 season.
But indications of a competitive fight are emerging even before the weekend begins properly. Kimi Antonelli set the fastest time in the only practice session, while George Russell secured pole position for Saturday’s Sprint race. Verstappen will start sixth in the Sprint and will look to make a strong start to his final weekend at Zandvoort.
The event also marks the first Sprint weekend at the circuit. The main race will take place on Sunday, August 23. The drivers will be completing 72 laps around the 4.259-kilometre track.
For Verstappen, however, the significance of the weekend extends beyond championship points. Zandvoort has become a defining part of his relationship with Dutch Formula 1 fans. As the circuit prepares to disappear from the calendar, his special Delft Blue helmet and one final race in front of the Orange Army provide an appropriate tribute to a remarkable chapter in Dutch motorsport.
