The Census 2027 exercise will ask households across India a wide range of questions about their personal, social, educational and economic information. The Ministry of Home Affairs has notified 40 questions that census officials will use to gather information during the household schedule.
The questionnaire goes beyond basic population figures. It covers how people live, where they come from, their education and work, family details, migration and several other aspects of their lives.
Census 2027 Questionnaire Covers Basic Personal Details
The household schedule will begin with information about individual members of a household. Census officials will ask for details such as a person’s name, relationship with the head of the household, sex, date of birth, and age. The questionnaire will also cover marital status, age at marriage, spouse’s name, and nationality.
These questions will help the census build a clearer picture of the country’s population and household structure.
Education forms another important part of the questionnaire. Officials will ask about literacy and digital literacy, along with attendance at educational institutions. The schedule will also ask people about their highest educational qualification and their stream or discipline.
Language and social details also feature in the questionnaire. People will have to provide information about their mother tongue and other languages they know. The schedule also includes questions related to religion, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe status, caste, parents’ details and disability.
Census 2027 Will Cover Employment, Migration, and Family Details
The Census 2027 questionnaire will also look closely at employment and economic activity.
Officials will ask whether a person worked during the previous year. The questions will then cover occupation, the nature of the industry, trade or service, class of worker and other forms of economic activity. The schedule will also ask whether a person remains available for work or is currently seeking employment. These details can help provide a broader picture of employment patterns across different parts of the country.
Migration will also form part of the census exercise. The questionnaire will ask people about their birthplace, previous place of residence and the reason they moved. It will also ask how long a person has lived in their current village or town since their last migration, along with their permanent residential address.
For eligible women, the schedule will include questions about children. These questions will cover the number of children currently surviving, the total number of children ever born alive and the number of children born alive during the previous year.
Other Questions in the Census Questionnaire
The questionnaire also covers several other areas of everyday life. It includes questions about COVID-19 vaccination, the number of bank accounts, mobile numbers, Aadhaar numbers and voter ID numbers.
Indian passport holders will also answer questions about their passport details. The schedule will further ask whether a person has a driving licence.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued the notification as part of preparations for the Census 2027 exercise. The 40 questions will guide officials as they collect household information across the country. The exercise will give authorities a detailed set of demographic, educational, social, economic and migration-related information about India’s population.
