
BE:FIRST has always aimed for the top, and now their dreams have finally come true. The Japanese Boy Band had recently reached number 1 on Billboard Japan Hot 100. Their new holiday single, ‘Lighting up the Town’, have made it to the Billboard, which was released on December 8, 2025.
The song, with its festive vibe, evokes a sense of warmth and togetherness. It has quickly become the fans’ favourite as they sing along to the fun and catchy lyrics.
BE: FIRST – The Journey to the Top

As of December 17, the chart released by Billboard had declared BE:FIRST as the clear winner. Kenshi Yonezu’s ‘IRIS OUT’ has dominated the chart thus far, slipping to second position. BE: FIRST’s ‘Lighting up the Town’ was quick to become the audience’s preferred holiday jam and jumped to the Number 1 position.
The band’s single also serves as an Official Christmas tie-in for Family Mart. It’s one of Japan’s largest convenience store chains, with the group members also making appearances in the store’s campaigns and commercials. With this track, the BE:FIRST has earned its tenth Number 1 on Japan’s Hot 100.
Other number 1 singles from this popular J-pop group include ‘Gifted’, ‘Boom Boom Back’, ‘Scream’, ‘Blissful’, ‘Grit’, ‘Spacecraft’, and ‘Bye-Good-Bye’. Additional artists that reached the top 10 include Japanese idol group ≠ME, HANA, Starto Entertainment’s boy band Naniwa Danshi, ICEx, Kenshi Yonezu, Hikaru Utada, Snow Man, and BUMP OF CHICKEN.

Be:FIRST is a Japanese Boy Band formed by BMSG (Be MySelf Group). It is an entertainment company. The band launched on November 3, 2021, through the reality competition show. The group includes six members- Shimao Sota, Kubo Shunto, Hirose Manato, Kuroda Ryūhei, Ikegame Junon, and Kamimura Reo. The former member, Miyama Ryōki, left the group this year.
Be:FIRST debuted in August 2022 with their studio album, ‘Be:1’. By then, they had already released their two singles, ‘Gifted‘ and ‘Bye-Good-Bye.’ Both of which reached number 1 on Billboard Japan’s Hot 100. The album achieved major commercial success. It dominated the Billboard Japan Hot Albums Chart and also became certified gold with its record sales of over 100,000 copies.
Sky-Hi (Mitsuhiro Hidaka) has chosen the group’s name. He is the owner of BMSG, in hopes that the group will always aim for the top while also continuing to respect that others are at number one too. Recently, the band has released the chart-topping singles, which include ‘Spacecraft’, ‘Grit’, ‘Stare in Wonder’, and many more.
