The film adaptation of Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi has been making headlines for its cast and potential plotline. Emily Brontë’s renowned work is set to be directed by none other than Emerald Fennell; known for Promising Young Woman (2020) and Saltburn (2023). The film, scheduled for release on Valentine’s Day 2026, unveiled its immersive teaser; revealing that all the original songs will be sung by Charlie XCX.
Longtime fans of Charlie XCX have eagerly awaited more details about her contributions, and it finally seems the wait is over. The hitmaker has officially released the first song from Wuthering Heights, titled “House,” featuring musician and composer John Cale.
What is the song about?

Charlie XCX’s collaboration with The Velvet Underground has debuted a gothic music video for “House“. Directed by Mitch Ryan, the video feels like a cinematic experience wrapped in gothic, ominous, and sensual elements. It shows Charlie XCX and John Cale in a house, accompanied by his haunting voiceover and her distinctive vocals, an ideal fit for the dark adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
Regarding the origins and creation of the song, the singer shared that she described it as ‘elegant and brutal.’ After reading the script, she revealed she was so inspired that she and Finn Keane began working on numerous songs; feeling they connected to the world of Catherine and Heathcliff.
Following her previous album, Charlie wanted to explore something new, and Wuthering Heights provided the perfect opportunity. She explained that the idea of collaborating with John Cale came after she watched Todd Hayne’s documentary about The Velvet Underground, where Cale’s statement that ‘any song has to be both elegant and brutal’ struck her deeply. Inspired by that phrase, she kept thinking about it while working on the film’s music.
During her global tour, she had already started writing the song that would become “House”. Later, she reached out to John Cale; and they connected over the project, which eventually came to life. She was thrilled to share the song for a long time. Since its release on Monday, fans have expressed mixed opinions with many praising it as a masterpiece and celebrating Charlie’s vocal range, while others have been disappointed with her new style.
