8 March 2025, New Delhi- The Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI) has opened a distinctive space in its central lobby dedicated to celebrating webtoons in order to provide its fans with a maximum experience of K-content. This permanent webtoon experience area aims to introduce Indian audiences to the magical yet dynamic world of Korean digital comics, from a genre so significant that many are beginning to see it as the future of storytelling that has grown in leaps and bounds onto the global stage.
The space is equipped with many interactive touch screens for browsing webtoons, with a display screen showing promotional videos and cozy seating areas that provide an engaging reading experience. Designed to provide a deep dive into the colorful and vibrant world of Korean webtoon, the space serves as a haven for enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
Webtoons—a culture of digital comics originating from Korea—has now transformed the entertainment landscape worldwide. Initially serialized in Korean webtoons on platforms such as Naver and Daum, webtoons are gaining unrivaled popularity because of their easy accessibility and diverse storytelling formats. The Korean webtoon market was valued at approximately 2.189 trillion won ($1.6 billion) in 2023 and boasts over 170 million monthly active users globally as of 2024.

Fans in India have also seen this evolutionary trend. Nikita, a college student who visited the webtoon space, told, “This was my first time experiencing a Korean webtoon. It is so cozy and comfortable here, I think it will be a visual experience for people to understand Korean culture through webtoons.” Another visitor, Subhashri, said, “I really liked the Korean webtoon ‘Crimson Heart’ when I read it on a mobile app. I’m excited to explore more webtoons here at KCCI.”
KCCI’s initiative is oriented towards contributing to Korea’s own national strategy to exert its cultural influence globally. Hwang Il Yong, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India, said, “This is support towards India’s culture content market with a view to furthering our theme of ‘Korean content’ to have a more substantially beneficial exchange through locally adapted Make in India initiatives.”
With K-webtoons getting global recognition, KCCI is a new venue for audience engagement regarding Korea’s rapidly growing digital comics from India. As webtoons have been a significant part of the Hallyu wave, their presence in the landscape of India is set to engender a new regard for Korean-style storytelling and creativity.
