
The biggest end-of-year music event that every K-pop fan eagerly awaits is finally here. Indeed, more than a yearly award show, it is a celebration of music. Moreover, it is a chance for fans to witness their favourite artists performing on of the biggest stages. This year, organisers held the 17th edition of the Melon Music Awards (MMA) at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. Here, the biggest names in the Korean entertainment industry gathered for a grand celebration of K-Pop music, highlighting stunning performances and remarkable achievements.
The MMA Awards also live-streamed the ceremony across various digital platforms, including Melon and 1theK. As a result, this allowed seamless global access for international fans. Sponsored by KakaoBank, over 18,000 fans attended the 17th edition of the MMA. In addition, the ceremony presented a total of 29 categories to honour influential artists and releases.
About the Event: The Presenters, Line-ups, and the Winners

This year’s ceremony featured some of the biggest stars as presenters. For instance, these included Extraordinary Attorney Woo actress Park Eun-bin. They also featured renowned ‘Uphill Road’ singer Yoon Jong-shin, and Olympic figure skater Cha Jun-hwan.
The MMA’s defining, star-studded spectacles included popular names such as G-Dragon, who delivered mesmerising performances of ‘Drama,’ ‘Home Sweet Home’ and ‘Crooked.’ Meanwhile, Jennie presented her glamourous solo stage of ‘Seoul City’ and ‘Like Jennie,‘ while Exo’s staged a highly anticipated comeback with ‘Wolf,’ ‘Growl’ and the track from their upcoming album. Furthermore, some of the most talked-about performances, which sent social media into a frenzy, included those by K-pop acts RIIZE, IVE, and ALLDAY PROJECT.
Jennie of BLACKPINK and G-Dragon emerged as the stars of the night. Specifically, Jennie won the Daesang for Record of the Year. She created MMA history as the first solo artist to receive the honour.

Meanwhile, G-Dragon took home four Daesangs, including Song of the Year for ‘Home Sweet Home,’ Artist of the Year, and KakaoBank Album of the Year for ‘Übermensch’, along with other accolades such as Best Solo (Male) and Best Songwriter.
In addition, other notable achievements included ALLDAY PROJECT winning New Artist of the Year and BLACKPINK’s Rosé receiving Best Solo (Female). BOYNEXTDOOR was named Best Male Group, IVE won Best Female Group, and HUNTR/X (K-pop Demon Hunters) took home Best OST for ‘Golden.’
About Melon Music Awards
The Melon Music Awards is a prestigious annual music awards show. Kakao Entertainment organises it through its music streaming service, Melon. Importantly, the ceremony recognises popular artists, albums, songs, and records based on their impact.To achieve this, the ceremony uses parameters such as streaming data, which accounts for 60%. Fan votes contribute 20%, and judges’ evaluations make up the remaining 20%.
Originally, the event was launched as an online fan-voting award ceremony in 2005 and officially established in 2009. Since then, the Melon Music Awards remains one of the most anticipated events for artists and fans worldwide.
