Sudan’s ongoing civil war is causing deep suffering. Now, things have gotten even more complicated. A powerful group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has announced its own government. This is a direct challenge to the government Sudan already has, which is based in Port Sudan. This big announcement means the war is getting much more serious. It also shows how deeply divided the country has become.
Sudan’s Leadership: A Rival Team Steps Up
The RSF’s new government wants to be the main power in Sudan. RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, also known as Hemedti, will lead their top council of 15 members. This council will be the most powerful group. They have also named Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’ishi, a civilian politician, as their Prime Minister. And Abdelaziz Adam al-Hilu, a rebel group leader, is the Vice-President of their council. This RSF-led group, called the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), planned this move months ago.

Sudan’s Rejection: The World Says No
Sudan’s real government, which is based in Port Sudan, has rejected the RSF’s new government. They told other countries not to accept or recognize this new group. Sudan’s foreign ministry said that supporting the RSF would be an insult to Sudan’s real government and its freedom. The Sudanese army also said the RSF’s new leadership is not real and called it a “fake government.”
Many international organizations and people are worried. The African Union had already warned that this move could cause Sudan to break into pieces. A group called Darfur Union UK said this plan was very bad and could lead to serious violence and crimes. The League of Arab States also warned that Sudan could split into fighting regions because of this.
Power and Division
Experts believe the RSF formed their own government for a few reasons. They want to be seen as a proper, legitimate authority, not just a fighting group. This could help them get more power in any future peace talks.
However, many fear this move will make Sudan even more broken. It could mean the country is split for good. The RSF controls much of western Sudan, including Darfur. On the other hand, the Sudanese army now controls the capital, Khartoum, and most of the northern, eastern, and central parts of the country. Having two governments could make the war last much longer.
Sudan’s Suffering: The Crisis Gets Worse
This political fight comes when Sudan is already facing a massive human disaster. It’s the biggest and fastest growing displacement crisis in the world. Over 13 million people have been forced to leave their homes. This includes more than 9 million inside Sudan and nearly 4 million who have fled to other countries. Half of all Sudanese people, about 30.4 million, desperately need help.
Many people are starving. Over 4 million children are very sick from not having enough food. Diseases like cholera are spreading fast. This is because hospitals are broken and there isn’t enough clean water. Getting help to people is very hard because of the ongoing fighting and many roadblocks. This new “two-government” situation will only make it harder to deliver aid to those who need it most.
