OmegaVerse is a popular speculative fiction sub-genre, not much explored in Thai Entertainment. With the recent announcement of KNOT, let’s discuss omegaverse!
What is Omegaverse?

Omegaverse is a popular sub-genre of speculative fiction that originated from fan fiction.
It explores a world with Alpha, Beta, and Omega secondary genders, focusing on romance and power dynamics, including heats and mpreg (male pregnancy).
The genre challenges traditional gender roles, which interests viewers and engages them with the characters’ traits and not just stereotype by their genders.
Have we had this genre in Thai Dramas before?

Yes! Yes, we have! PitBabe The Series is a 2023 drama starring Naret Promphaopun and Krittin Kitjaruwannakul. Directed by Nopachai Jayanama and produced by CHANGE2561, the series premiered on One31 on November 10, 2023 (available on YouTube).
PitBabe, however, moves away from the true omegaverse genre and adapts more of its own unique lore, and has downplayed certain tropes compared to its source novel.
The word “Alpha” is used to refer to a person having special powers. The series does not delve into the mpreg or the alpha-omega bond as it solely focuses on superpowers and their main plot line, the black market for them, leading to conflict, betrayal, and a quest for freedom.
How is KNOT going to be different?

Knot is an upcoming Thai drama that incorporates a lot more true concepts of the genre.
From the trailer, we notice the inclusion of ideas like heats, ruts, bonding, and mpreg.
There is also an introduction of the term “knot”, which is central to the show’s title and plot.
It refers to a biological function where the male Alpha’s anatomy swells during intimacy, causing a temporary “lock” or “tie” with the Omega, symbolising a significant, deep connection.
