“Come on Baby, Scrape My Data” is Machine Girl’s latest release since their 2024 album MG Ultra. This release follows the addition of guitarist Lucy Caputi to the ensemble, making the project a trio.
Wanna Know Me
Machine Girl is certainly one of the more difficult ones to define. A quick Google search would place them in distinct categories like “Indie/Alternative” or “Dance/Electronic”. However, the 2015 project-turned-band is more than just an amalgamation of them.
Described by the trio’s front-man, Matt Stephenson, Machine Girl stands out for its ‘effed-up electronic-punk‘ sound. Seen distinctively in their discography, one can surely find remnants of each of the mentioned categories. Yet, it’s not quite the same.

Quite a few of their songs deal with dystopian, turn of the century, technology wave conundrums. Notably their tracks “Scroll of Sorrow”, “This is Your Face on Dogs”, and “Kill Screen” comment explicitly on the now widely felt digital permeation of man.
This mission of ‘disturbing the undisturbed’ makes the ensemble’s music stand out in the midst of other alternative projects. Consequently, their latest single is a dire commentary by Stephenson on issues of the cyberspace.
Wanna Own Me

“Come On Baby, Scrape My Data”, released on August 15, is Machine Girl’s first release since 2024. In the course of this period, they on-boarded their touring guitarist as a formal member of their ensemble. Intriguingly, the track has remnants of the band’s signature distorted vocals, heavy synths, and almost-deafening beats. Lasting for just over 3 minutes, and accompanied by a music video, the single makes Stephenson’s message explicitly clear.
Some of the lyrics that highlight the themes include:
“Am I really that easy to read?
So predictably easy to please?
Another cash cow
for you to bleed
Spill my guts all over your spreadsheets”
Machine Girl: Reception, So Far
Following the group’s release, listeners so far have claimed:
sushibeea peak just dropped peak
ethereal-hatred It scratches my circuits i think i’m gonna have a syntax error
Certainly, the new single attempts to bring together their audience, and spark a much needed conversation on data-breaches, and profit-motivated privacy law infringes. A commenter on Reddit had something to add:
i liked it a lot more than mg ultra, i just wish the mixing was less flat and that matt would stop singing in that eric cartman voice and doing the dissonant chorus effect stuff. overall fun song though
The single is rumoured to be the title track of an upcoming Machine Girl album entitled Psychowarrior. While the announcement is yet to be made official, the prospects of a new release does entice many. As the current release navigates through the streaming service space, why not give it a listen?
