Kajol’s upcoming film, Maa, is a mythological horror. Usually seen in romantic roles, this film reinvents the screen portrayal of Kajol and views her as a fierce mother who can fight any monster to save her daughter. With the tagline which says “Rakshak. Bakshak. MAA”, the themes of the movie is absolutely transparent –protection and destruction.
Written by Saiwyn Quadras and directed by Vishal Furia (who also directed Chhorii and Chhorii 2), the film expands the universe of “Shaitaan” which started with the film bearing the very same name in March, 2024. It is produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande, with Kumar Mangat Pathak as a co-producer.
Shaitaan blended supernatural elements with psychological horror. Maa moves a step further ahead. It builds on the already established universe and brings in a fresh perspective on horror –presenting ancient myths with horror, hinting at a shared cinematic universe. To add on to this, R. Madhavan, who played the antagonist in Shaitaan, made a surprise appearance at the trailer launch, igniting further anticipation.
About the movie, Maa:
Kajol plays a protective mother, who transforms into Maa Kali to protect her daughter and battle a demonic curse rooted in fear, blood and betrayal, on a village by the name of Chandarpur. Young girls are vanishing. An ancient ‘daitya’ (demon), who is demanding their sacrifice, is behind this. When the villagers plan to sacrifice her daughter to free themselves from the curse, Kajol unleashes inner fury to go to any extreme to protect her daughter.

The trailer was released on May 29, 2025. It increased the excitement among fans who loved Shaitaan and is now waiting to see how Maa amplifies the atmosphere created by the former movie. It aims to make a pan-Indian impact, with a planned release in multiple languages including Hindi, Telugu, Bengali and Tamil.
With the movie set to hit the theatres on June 27, 2025, the fans are enthusiastically waiting to witness the fire Kajol is about to bring with her brand new role –one that has never been witnessed before.
