The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has proposed an ambitious plan to connect some of the most congested areas of Delhi-NCR through an air corridor. Instead of sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the ground, commuters could one day travel through designated air routes above the city. Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu recently unveiled the CII study, titled “Navigating the Future of Advanced Air Mobility in India,” which explores this innovation in detail.
A Glimpse of Air Taxi Route

The proposed corridor would connect Gurgaon, Connaught Place, and Noida International Airport at Jewar, significantly reducing travel time compared to road transportation. The plan focuses on a pilot route spanning approximately 65 to 75 kilometres. This flagship corridor is expected to serve as a blueprint for similar projects in major urban centres across India.
According to the CII report, the journey along this route could be completed in just minutes, compared to the current road travel time of about 2.5 hours from Connaught Place to Noida International Airport.
If successfully implemented in Delhi-NCR, the pilot project could pave the way for significant advancements in India’s aviation sector. Similar air mobility routes could later be developed in other highly congested cities such as Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
The system would rely on electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs). These aircraft offer a cleaner, zero-emission alternative to conventional ground transportation, which contributes heavily to urban pollution. The proposal also suggests the use of rooftop vertiports for aircraft landings. These vertiports could be located on the rooftops of hospitals, technology parks, or office towers, significantly reducing the cost and time required for land acquisition.
The CII report presents this initiative as an opportunity for India to overcome traditional infrastructure limitations and position itself as a global leader in advanced air
