Five years, and many TikTok trends later, Deftones have finally announced the release of their album private music, set to come out on August 22. This announcement was met with stark surprise, manic anticipation, and what I imagine to be shrilling screams as the group pre-released the single, “my mind is a mountain” on July 10.

At first glance, the track, being not even 3 minutes long, could bother many individuals. However, the track length does not even come to mind the moment one gets a glimpse of what’s to come. The track makes for a compelling beginning, reminiscent of Chino Moreno‘s melodic notes, and newfound vocal distortions — all of which tell the tale of what we have missed for about half a decade.
Some of the more notable reviews in the comments of the track above are:
“Here to witness genuine history because (and I am predicting) this will be one of the best, not only Deftones albums, alternative albums to come out of the 20s”
“FINALLY!!! It’s exactly what I wanted from these guys. I love the diamond eyes/koi no yokan style so this is perfect for me.”
“my depression is cured”
Deftones has scheduled their album release on all major streaming sites, and has made their records available for pre-order on their website. The tracklist released for private music includes:
- my mind is a mountain
- locked club
- ecdysis
- infinite source
- souvenir
- cXz
- I think about you all the time
- milk of the madonna
- cut hands
- ~metal dream
- departing the body
In essence, Deftones’ fans, and listeners are more than willing to embrace the group’s much-awaited album. If you haven’t yet checked the band out, take a look at some of their popular tracks on Spotify. If you’re familiar with their music, and like it, stick around till August 22 to cherish it further!
