After the disaster that was The Archies, where a handful of star kids collectively delivered what many called “Bollywood’s most disconnected youth debut,” the skepticism only deepened. So now the industry finds itself holding its breath once more, this time for Shanaya Kapoor.
Who Is Shanaya Kapoor?
Shanaya Kapoor is no stranger to the limelight. The daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor and niece to Anil Kapoor, she hails from a legacy steeped in cinema. Her debut has been long anticipated. Both by fans of the Kapoor clan and critics sharpening their knives for another “launched without merit” critique.
Unlike some of her contemporaries, however, Shanaya’s journey hasn’t been smooth. While her industry connections ensured doors opened for her, they didn’t always stay open.
False Starts & Delayed Dreams
Her name has been associated with several high-profile projects in the last few years:
Screw Dheela (2022):
This film, under the prestigious banner of Dharma Productions, was meant to be her launch vehicle. While Tiger Shroff was set to lead. Rumours were heard about Shanaya being cast opposite him. The excitement was real but the film disappeared into silence. No updates, no confirmations, just the faint that one teaser on YouTube.
Bedhadak (2023):
Another Karan Johar production that introduced Shanaya alongside Lakshya Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada. Slick posters were released, press statements made, but the project soon went quiet. Industry blamed financial challenges, inflation, and shifting priorities at the studio. But for Shanaya, it meant another debut delayed.

These hiccups, however, did something unexpected. They created an unusual kind of empathy among viewers. Perhaps for the first time, a nepo kid wasn’t being launched on a silver platter.
A New Beginning? Tu Ya Main
Shanaya announced Tu Yaa Main via her Instagram. This time generating genuine interest. There was hope. Some fans felt she had something different to offer. “Maybe she’s the one who’ll change the narrative,” a user commented. But again, reactions were split. Others argued she only seemed impressive because the bar for star kids had dropped too low.
Ankhon Ki Gustakhiyan: The Teaser
Now, Shanaya’s fate rests on her most concrete project yet: Ankhon Ki Gustakhiyan. Where she stars opposite critically acclaimed actor Vikrant Massey. Directed by debutante Arif Khan and backed by Zee Studios, the film is scheduled to release on 11 July 2025.
The teaser, dropped three weeks ago, featured minimal dialogue, but that was perhaps the point. It was atmospheric, filled with suggestive glances, old-world charm, and quiet longing. Shanaya appears composed, understated, and visibly more grounded than her previous public image. Critics and fans alike noticed her on-screen stillness, something rare for debutantes trying too hard to “act.”

Shanaya Kapoor vs The Nepo Kid Curse
Shanaya Kapoor’s debut isn’t just about her. It’s about whether this industry still believes in earning stardom. Whether a legacy can evolve from being inherited to being built. More importantly, it’s about whether audiences are ready to forgive and forget, provided someone shows promise, and maybe even talent.
So far, most “nepo kids” have disappointed. Many came and left without leaving a single role worth remembering. Their launches were grand, but their legacies were thin. Shanaya stands at the cusp of either repeating that pattern or breaking it entirely.
So what will it be? Will Shanaya Kapoor be remembered as the exception who earned her place? Or will she be yet another name in the long list of glittery, forgettable debuts? The answer may just arrive on 11 July.
