
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued 85 people in Surat on Wednesday after continuous heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding across several parts of Gujarat, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red Alert for multiple districts. According to the NDRF, rescue teams rescued 85 people, including 36 men, 27 women and 22 children, from the Sriram Nagar Society in Surat. Moreover, the rescue operation helped residents reach safety as large parts of the city continued to face severe waterlogging and flood-like conditions following heavy rainfall.
The NDRF deployed its rescue teams to carry out rescue operations in the flood-affected Sriram Nagar Society after heavy rainfall inundated the area. According to the force, the operation evacuated stranded residents, including women and children, to safer locations because water levels continued to rise.
NDRF Responds While IMD Issues Red Alert for Gujarat Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Amreli, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Botad, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman, Dang, Diu, Gir Somnath, Narmada, Navsari, Surat, Tapi, Vadodara and Valsad districts. Additionally, the weather department warned of lightning, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of around 60 kmph and heavy rainfall in these areas.
Meanwhile, an Orange Alert has also been issued for Ahmedabad, Anand, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Junagadh, Kheda, Panchmahal, Rajkot and Surendranagar. Notably, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of around 40–60 kmph are expected.
Amit Shah Assures Centre’s Support Amid Gujarat Floods

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel regarding the heavy rainfall situation in the state. He also assured him of all possible support from the Centre. According to the ANI report, the Home Minister also reviewed the situation arising due to persistent monsoon showers. These showers have disrupted normal life in several parts of Gujarat.

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has affected normal life across Gujarat. Waterlogging has occurred in several urban areas, leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience for commuters. Transport services have also been affected due to poor visibility. Furthermore, forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall continue to raise concerns in several districts. Surat remains among the worst-affected cities. As a result, heavy rainfall flooded roads, stranded commuters, hampered large-scale rescue operations and left four people dead in monsoon-related incidents.
NDRF and IMD Advisory

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised residents in the affected districts to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Specifically, the weather department has advised people not to take shelter under trees or weak structures. It also urged them to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated on road and traffic conditions. Furthermore, authorities have asked citizens to follow advisories issued by the concerned authorities.
The forecast has warned of continued heavy rainfall across several districts of Gujarat. Therefore, authorities remain on high alert as rescue and relief operations continue in the affected areas. According to the ANI report, NDRF rescued 85 people in Surat as widespread flooding disrupted normal life across the city.
