The Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival returned this year with bigger crowds, brighter lights, and a powerful open-air concert led by the world-famous band The Script. The two-day celebration turned Meghalaya’s capital into a lively blend of music, food, flowers, and global culture.
International Stars Take the Stage in Shillong

The highlight of the festival was the open concert where The Script performed their hit songs to thousands of cheering fans. Their energy set the tone for an unforgettable night as the crowd sang along under glowing cherry blossom trees.
Along with The Script, other international performers such as Jason Derulo, Diplo, and pop group Aqua added star power to the line-up. Their performances drew visitors from across India and other countries. This made the festival one of the Northeast’s biggest tourism events of the year.
Shillong City Turns Pedestrian-Only for a Better Experience
To create a safe and eco-friendly atmosphere, the government turned the festival route from Pinewood Hotel to Ward’s Lake and Polo Grounds into a pedestrian-only zone. People walked freely through the decorated streets, surrounded by food stalls, art installations, and blooming trees.
The car-free experience made the festival feel more open, relaxed, and community-driven.
Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom
The festival matched perfectly with the natural blooming season of the Himalayan cherry blossoms. The pink and white flowers created a stunning backdrop for concerts, cultural shows, photography spots, and picnic areas. Local artists set up stalls selling handmade crafts, jewelry, traditional clothes, and paintings inspired by the blossoms.
Throughout the festival, the city hosted folk dance shows, rock band competitions, karaoke sessions, and fashion walks. A special tribute to late musician Zubeen Garg also touched the hearts of the audience.
Meghalaya’s Tourism Department said the festival is part of its effort to build a strong “concert economy,” bringing together music lovers, local businesses, and global performers.
Food Stalls, Art Zones, and Tech Additions
Visitors enjoyed traditional Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia dishes along with popular street food from other states.
Tech features like LED wristbands lit up during performances, creating a synchronized glow across the crowd.
Photo booths, drone shows, and art corners made the festival a paradise for creators and influencers. Hotels and homestays were fully booked as tourists poured in. Local drivers, vendors, and artisans reported strong sales and steady income during the event. Organizers said the festival helps build a global identity for Shillong and attracts major performers every year.
A Festival That Keeps Growing
With its mix of natural beauty and high-energy performances, the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival has become one of India’s most unique events. Each year, it grows bigger—with stronger line-ups, improved crowd management, and new experiences for visitors.
This year’s open-air concert by The Script proved once again why the festival continues to shine on the national and international stage.
